RMG Networks
Make an unfamiliar product — a TV that markets for you — instantly make sense.
RMG Networks’ ChalkboxTV turned an ordinary TV into a cloud-managed marketing channel, blending customized signage with live television. I provided UX and visual design — usability consulting included — for the marketing site that had to explain the idea and sell it, across every page the pitch needed to cover.
A marketing channel hiding in the TV on the wall.
ChalkboxTV let a business run its own customized signage alongside live TV — a cloud-based messaging app that turned the screen in the lobby, the gym, or the waiting room into a targeted marketing surface. Powerful, but abstract: the first job of the site was to make people picture it working in their space.
Lead with the outcome, not the technology.
A complex signage-plus-live-TV platform can drown a visitor in how it works. I kept the marketing site pointed at what it does for you— “Turn Your TV into a Powerful Marketing Tool” — and organized the story across a tight set of pages, each with one job.
One clear job per page.
Home sells the promise; Products & Services shows the how; Resellers speaks to the channel partners the business ran on; Contact turns interest into a conversation. Consistent, plain, and built to make a novel product feel approachable.
The finished ChalkboxTV marketing site (the homepage is shown at the top). Historical comps — modest resolution, original RMG branding.
Sell what it does — the how can wait for page two.
A new-category product lives or dies on whether a stranger can picture it working for them. The craft here was restraint: keep the outcome loud, the mechanics tidy, and give a complex signage platform a marketing site simple enough to actually convert.
UX and visual design for the marketing site; I don’t have campaign outcomes to quote, so I don’t.
